Chef (Immediate)

Ashton Recruitment require a Chef for our client based in Holywood.

Position: Chef (Immediate)

Location: Holywood

Duration: Temporary

Rate of Pay: £12.11 per hour

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 07:45-14:15

Please note due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will have to undertake an enhanced Access NI check

Duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Skilled cooking activities connected with the full range of meals (for example, assist with the preparation of menus, portion control, the provision of special dietary meals and function catering where appropriate). A good knowledge of standard recipes and how to prepare them.
  • To assist with:
    • record keeping
    • control of hygiene, health and safety in the kitchen including recording of temperatures and other potential hazards
    • the direction and/or shared supervision of other employees
  • To undertake operational control of service points including transported meals.
  • Associated administrative duties as required which may include assistance with:
    • the planning of meals
    • stock taking, including the organisation of stores and fridges and receipt of deliveries
    • general kitchen management in the absence of the Unit Catering Supervisor
    • shared supervision of other employees
    • training of staff
  • General kitchen duties as required including washing up, setting up and clearing away equipment and tables, cleaning of the kitchen, dining room surrounds and equipment.
  • Assisting with the promotion of meals to increase the uptake.
  • Securing of premises as required
  • Duties as delegated in connection with service provision.
  • Duties involving till operation:
    • The correct care and maintenance of the tills
    • Correct programming procedures and updating of prices
    • Correct daily operational procedures of tills
    • Customer care
    • Maintaining records appropriate to the smart card operation

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good standards of hygiene
  • Organised and methodical
  • Experience of catering
  • Supervising a team of catering staff

It is recognised that the nature of the work of the cook is such as to require a degree of flexibility and certain miscellaneous duties of a similar nature and appropriate to the grade may be required in addition to those set out above.
