Assistant Director: Healthy Living

Ashton Recruitment require an Assistant Director: Healthy Living for our client Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

Position: Assistant Director

Location: Newry

Duration: Temporary

Rate of Pay: £36.39 per hour

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week (including weekends)

As a member of the council’s Corporate Management Team, contribute proactively to the collective leadership for the council, working collaboratively with Members, services across the council, partners and stakeholders, to deliver the council’s objectives and priorities.

Duties include (but not limited to):

People Leadership:

  • Be responsible for the direct line management of employees who report to the post holder, ensuring that matters relating to performance, attendance and discipline are addressed within agreed timescales and in accordance with Council Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of relevant electronic or paper-based records relating to the management and supervision of employees under the control of the post holder, for example time and attendance returns, return to work interviews, appraisal documentation etc.

Service Delivery:

Lead and manage the Healthy Living Department through the provision of high level of customer service, a professional and proactive approach to the delivery of leisure, sport, health and wellbeing services. Provide and manage high quality facilities across the range of functions within the department.

Lead, manage and direct services, operations, teams and employees of your department in accordance with and supporting the council’s vision, values, behaviours and priorities through the development and delivery of the key council’s strategies, business plans and delivery programmes

Performance and Project Delivery:

Focus on delivering better and continuously improving outcomes and targets for the borough and its residents through the development and delivery of strategic businesses planning, service improvement programmes and through effective business performance management.

Lead the inception, development and delivery of key programmes and projects including leading business case development, funding and resourcing strategies, project management, effective and robust governance mechanisms and reporting through to successful implementation.

Essential Criteria :

Have a minimum of a Level 6* Qualification, for example University Degree (BA, BSc etc)

A minimum of 3 years’ experience operating at a **Senior Management level position in a large, complex, unionised organisation, which: a. employs no fewer than 200 employees. AND b. has an annual capital and/or revenue budget of at least £10 million

A minimum of 3 years’ experience operating at a **Senior Management level in (a) role(s) which includes responsibility for:

* Leading (a) team(s) of people

* Leisure and Sport AND

* In ONE of the following two service areas: a. Health and Wellbeing b. Parks and Open Spaces

* managing a capital or revenue budget(s) of at least £100,000.

* Leading on the implementation of corporate strategy

* Formulating and overseeing key projects within allocated resources and timeframes

* Income growth and driving efficiencies within a customer orientated organisation

Hold a full valid driving licence and have access to transport to meet the requirements of the post

Current individual Membership of a recognised professional body relevant to any of the subject areas of this post, for example, Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
